As you will have noticed, Fudge has been down for some time. We did some redesign of the site that took more than what we expected. However, we do have an exciting new feature for you: Meshes. A mesh basically a network of users, let it be a university, a company, a high school. Users join meshes so they can connect more easily we people they might now. Also, you can specify what your role is within that mesh. We are soon going to roll out features that will be tailored specifically for student/instructor interaction, and other interesting projects we are working on.
Thanks for the patience this couple of days.

Scores for the first two contests hosted on Fudge are in! Points are going to be calculated differently, based on what kind of contest they refer to: test case scoring vs. problem scoring.
If scoring is on a test case basis, you may get some points for partially solving a problem. You will get more points for passing individual test cases that have a low acceptance ratio. You will get penalized for everytime you fail a particular test case.
If scoring is on a per problem basis, you will get points for solving a problem entirely. You will get more points if you are the fastest to submit a valid solution, and if you do so with a high success ratio. Every time you submit a wrong solution for a problem, and every time somebody else submits a valid solution to that problem, your chances of gaining more points go down.
Furthermore, contests were judging takes place at the end, as opposed to immediately, will yield about twice as many points.
Once the contests are over, the problems will be added to the Archive. If you were a participant in the contest, you will not get any points for solving contest problems. On the other hand, if you were not signed up for the contest, these problems are treated as normal archived problems. However, you will not be able to view the source code and test cases until the problems grow old.

The First Fudge Open is scheduled for this weekend. This is the first official contest to be hosted on Fudge. We are really excited about it, so excited that we will give out some awesome Fudge T-shirts to the top 10 contestants! You are going to have to solve 3 problems in 3 hours - but there's a catch! You won't know the outcome of your solution until the very end, so code carefully! All scores will be based on the number of problems solved. If there is a tie, then time of submission will be taken into account. Sign-up for the contest at http://fudge.fit.edu/Contests/First_Fudge_Open. We hope you have fun, and good luck!

We have been doing some points revamping on Fudge. Points will now lose value over time, so that new users will have a more fair chance of making it into the Top 10! We are also going to implement a difficulty rating for problems, so that harder ones will yield more points. Other site improvements are also on the way. Stay tuned!
